New Beginnings

Time really does go fast. I'm not sure what happened to the blog spirit, but it must have ran dry. 

We had a few new things happen this past year. 

We moved into a new house last October and we love it. The location is perfect for accessing all the things we do. We have a bedroom for each child, which has made life so nice. 

The boys changed schools from French to English in February, and it was the best thing we could have done. They get to walk to and from school with some neighbour kids, and although they sometimes hate it, I think it's good for them.

Other then those two big changes, not much else has changed. We are all busy staying active.

Harper learned how to Ski last year and we are excited to see what this ski season brings. We got a family ski pass at Lake Louise, so that's where you'll find us on the Sundays.

Looking forward to another great school year. Jonas in grade 4, Rhett in grade 1 and Harper in 3 year old preschool. Lots of adjusting to only having one kid at home these days. Which means I might actually update the blog more.

2014 Update

Harper - Age 2.5 Years

Harper is a going concern here at the Marshall house. She is two and demands so much. I often think this is our fault, because when she was younger we all gave her the world. Feisty and strong willed, there is no way I am winning any argument with her. I must learn to parent a different way with her. She is more capable then I think she is, and I know that this will be great in years to come.

Rhett - Age 5.5 years

Rhett started Kindergarten this year, and it was a wonderful time for him. He started off with smiles and ended with smiles. I think the girl that completely lost her marbles, helped Rhett realize that he didn't want to be "that" person. He continues to ask a million questions a day and really, I'm not even sure I answer him correctly.

Jonas  - Age 8 years

Jonas entered into grade Three and easily transitioned into the school routine again. The summer had been so wonderful with him at home, that I really didn't want school to start. Jonas is a kind person with a generous spirit, always willing to help out. Jonas has stated that he'd like to try a different hair style, so we will grow the top a bit longer and see how that works/looks.

Rhett Turns 1

Ok so he's not one till tomorrow, but I know this post won't get done if I leave it for then.

Our family has enjoyed having Rhett in our lives, and each one of us loves him dearly. He is so perceptive, and catches on to things quickly. His smile is bright and cheerful, and melts my heart. When I pick him up I can't help but kiss his big cheeks. He's started walking but is very cautious and only takes 2 steps then back to crawling. Well I'm sure everyone feels the same about their kids, but he's just so darn cute!!

Family Pictures

I'm really bad at posting updates these days. We've been busy having fun with friends, getting sick, going to school, playing with Dad & getting ready for Christmas.

The boys have been under the weather for about a week and a half. Even though I'd say Rhett isn't as bad as Jonas, he is sleeping enormous amounts of time. He's still sleeping right now.

Rhett is an eating machine. He can devour a bowl of oatmeal, a cup of yogurt and half a Banana before Jonas even thinks about touching his oatmeal. Rhett cries for more food, while Jonas cries about eating. It's not uncommon for Rhett to finish Jonas’ food. AND Rhett isn't a big a boy for all the food he packs in, just a normal size.

We went to the Talisman Kids Christmas party a few weeks back, and the boys got to sit on Santa's lap. On the way to the event we told Jonas that he's gets to ask Santa for one special thing for Christmas. He told us he wanted a cow. So when it was his time to sit on Santa's lap, he was very shy, but didn't cry. He asked Santa very quietly for a cow, then quickly hopped down and ran for his life. They had a table set up on the side that had presents all lined up. Jeff picked up the present and gave it to Jonas to open. Jonas opened it up and said "hey, where my Cow"?

I guess it never dawned on Jeff and I that Jonas thought what he asked for was then immediately given.

Hot Dog, Hot Dog, Hot Dog...that's what Jonas is is singing right now. Not sure why, but he's singing it loud and proud.

Love that kid, he's so innocent. Kind. Special.

Off to pre-school at 1pm, and he keeps asking when we're leaving - it's only 10:53am. Leah and Rachel are his friends. They must be nice, becuase he keeps asking if they'll be there. I tell him hopefully they will be.

Halloween 2009

This year Halloween was a bit cold, but we still had a great time. Jonas was a pirate, and Rhett was a turtle. Of course candy was involved, and of course I had my fair share. We went to a few different events this year...One at the Tanya's Church, Hilary's Halloween bash, and the costume party at school. So Jonas got to wear his costume 3 times!!!

Halloween Night Cassandra & Mike came over to take Jonas out Trick-or-Treating with Jeff. Jonas was full steam ahead at the start, but slowly started to run out of gas just as they were the farthest away from the house as possible. He made it home, but was more then ready to check out his candy loot.

And We're Off To School!!

Jonas started pre-school on Tuesday this week. He did well and only needed some quick reassurance at the start...which surprised me. He wanted me to come and meet the teacher with him, then he was off and didn't look back. They painted a rock the first day, and when I picked him up he was so proud of his work. Which reminds me I have to picture to show of the rock.


Thursday was his second class and just as we were leaving the house he bumped his nose and got his very first bloody nose!! He was a bit upset, but it didn't last long, and we were off to school.

I really can't believe how much he's taking in during these past two classes...already he was singing his ABC's and counting to 10....as many of you know it's been a struggle to get Jonas to talk so this is huge for us. It almost makes me think he was keeping quiet all this time just to spite us.

September Already?

It’s hard to believe that summer is over, and Jonas will be heading to Pre-school on the 8th. I know for sure that Jonas is going to love Pre-school, as he is so independent.
We got a letter from his teacher with instructions on the “How to help your child feel secure about school” talk. Ha, obviously she doesn’t know Jonas. Jonas will go to anyone’s house without me. He’ll play with anyone. He takes direction from anyone…Christ; sometimes I wonder why I’m even around.

Funny things he’s doing/saying:
* I go play my Friends?
* Hi Guy
* I go winter club?
* Crap Mommy? Where? (This is always after I’ve said it in frustration, and he wants to know where the “crap” is)
* When asked where daddy is he’ll reply “At work” or “Daddy Golf”
* I go Caway Park? (Caloway Park)
* He enjoys golf and we’ve been practicing on his shot…which isn’t too bad.
* He loves stealing Rhett’s soothers and hiding under a blanket while sucking on them (this drives me crazy)
* He enjoys getting into things he shouldn’t, then coming to tell me…I guess I can’t get too mad at him for being truthful.
* when we're in the car and I want to know what Rhett's doing I ask Jonas and he replies:
"Rhett Happy" (means he's awake) "Rhett Sleeping" (means he's sleeping)
* When he hears Rhett Crying he lets me know by saying "Mom, Rhett crying"

The other night we were out in the front yard talking with some neighbours, and Jonas starts walking away down the sidewalk. I asked him “Hey, where do you think you’re going?”
He replied “The Park…Bye Mom”

Rhett is almost crawling now. He’s doing the “on all fours rocking thing”…so it’s just a matter of time before I lose my mind.
Rhett loves to eat, and smile. Rhett is a sensitive soul, and we have to be careful not to speak too loud or play too rough. I just love going in to his room, seeing him smile and reach out for me. Melts my heart.

Today I went to a group swim class…and I’ve got to say I am DOG tired right now. I haven’t swum since I was in High School, and I’d forgotten what a complete body workout that is. I’ve signed up for a class every Thursday, and bought a swim suit and cap so that I can look really good. I’m sure anyone watching has a good laugh at my technique. Can you believe that the back crawl is the hardest stroke for me? I nearly drowned trying to turn my body enough to get the motion right. Again, it’s good for a laugh.

I bought a new lens for my birthday…yeah it’s a month early, but Judy was heading to the states so I’m having her pick it up for me. I’ll get it on Monday, and can’t wait to start using it. Heather told me that it’s the best lens for most situations, so I HAD to have it!! Perhaps my photos will start looking as good as hers?? One can hope, right?

Jeff passed his CFA exam. Was there ever really a doubt? He’s so disciplined; it almost makes me want to scream. The summer has been nice with him being available more, but come November he starts up again. One more year and it’s over!!

We are heading to Boyle this weekend to hang out with my Aunt & Uncle, cousins, sister and brother in law. We’ll do some boating, eating, and relaxing. I know Jonas is looking forward to sleeping in the tent again. A few weeks back we camped at Bow Valley camp ground and did the jewel pass hike. Jonas loved being able to pee in the trees and sleep in the tent.
